For the past ten years, we've had a great holiday tradition in my family. Every year, we all open presents on our couch. Dinner is the best because we have so much food that tastes great. Crinkling wrapping paper litters the house. But, the best part about Christmas is spending time with our family. Awesome is Christmas in my family!

Reasons Why the English Language is Hard to Learn:

20. I had to subject the subject to a series of tests.
21. How can I intimate this to my most intimate friend?
Let's face it, English is a crazy language! There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in a pineapple. English muffins weren't invented in England or French Fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies, while sweetbreads, which aren't sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. If we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. Why is it that writers write, but fingers don't fing, grocers don't groce, and hammers don't ham?
If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn't the plural of booth beeth? One goose, two geese… So one moose, two meese?
Doesn't it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend, that you can comb through annals of history but not one single annal?
If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it?

Lunch Wars

By Jon
Now then we are here for the war on lunch. Should we have open campus lunch? Or be in jail forever and ever!
Okay, in my opinion I think we should go off campus. So we can not be in that godforsaken jail! I just hate it besides we get are foods that we like! Besides, it's worth the money every day!
It is so fun to go off campus. The reason why is because good food. But we can get stolen so we need to be car full. So I would ride a bike. But have pegs because its downhill to Pizza Factory, McDonalds, etc. besides there's not a big crowd.
Why are people fighting us? Why does the state fight for middle school not to have open campus lunch. I mean here not that much bad stuff happens endless it evolves alcohol. I find it no crime so they should let us go. But I kind of agree.
So what do you choose? Open campus? Or locked in jail campus lunch?
Open Campus Lunch

By Coltan
I am here for the argument on open campus eating. We have had this argument going on forever. Now I think that's crazy. In my opinion kids should be able to go off campus.
Kids in middle school have wanted to go off campus and eat since I don't know when. When was the last time you heard of a kid trying to sneak off campus in Lone Pine? I've never heard of or seen anyone sneak off campus even at my old school. Kids know where they are supposed to be during the day so they stay there. If they want the privilege, treat it with respect.
Now, I think that we should be able to go off campus. Again I think we could have enough responsibility to go out on our own and come back to school. Some kids might not deserve to go out and if they break the rules, that person loses the privilege. We shouldn't lose it because a different person did something wrong. That would be really unfair.
We could have a lot of possibilities with open campus lunch. I mean we could go to McDonalds, The Pizza Factory, and tons of other things. We could even go to our houses. If kids didn't want to go to other places they can bring their lunch from home and eat it at school. Other places would get more money also.
I think it's crazy that an argument over this would last that long. I am just trying to help it end. This is the reason I'm here.
Open Lunch is a Good Thing
By Lacie
I think we should have an open lunch. We would have so many more choices out there than the cafeteria. There is one down side which is we don't have a car but we could still walk which would be really good exercise.
The high school students get to. There are so many more things that they get to do that we don't. We can be just as responsible as they are, or at least some of them. We could give permission slips to our parents and they could sign it.
Sometimes in the cafeteria kids don't eat because they don't have a home lunch and they do not like whatever is being served. If we had an open lunch more kids would eat because they would choose what they could eat. If this happened then they could concentrate more in class instead of being focused on their empty stomach. This would mean higher grades which would mean more happy parents.
If we don't behave teachers could threaten to take it away which would probably shut us up. It could be a good thing because teachers are always running out of ways to shut us up. It would also be good because then we wouldn't get as many dances taken away.
This is why open lunch would be a good thing. It would be fun for kids since we have more choices. Teachers could get us to shut up. Too bad it will never happen.

Branden’s Thoughts
By Branden
My parents have started campaign about are homework and so know they are kind of getting angry. In these paragraphs I am going to talk about our homework. Plus I'm going to talk about are parents and our teachers.
In this paragraph I am going to talk about are homework. We should get only three pages of homework a week and we should only get only twenty problems a night. Plus we should only spend about twenty minutes a night.
Our parents are mad because we get to much homework and my opinion we should get twenty problems a night. I think they are mad because we get to much homework. Know they are mad at the teachers and they should start a campaign. They but really they aren't really doing anything about it. The teachers are trying to stop the campaign.
This paragraph is about the teachers and the parents the teachers have got into a argument over are homework. They have been getting emails about the homework. Plus some have coming to the school and have talked to the principal.
Homework Isn’t Always Necessary!
By Lacie
Some of the parents at your school have started a campaign to limit the homework that teachers can assign to students. Teachers at your school have argued that the homework is necessary. What is your position? Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper stating your position and supporting it with convincing reasons.
I think homework is only necessary on certain occasions. I mean we need a break sometimes. We have a life. Not all of us are couch warmers.
I don't think that teachers should give us boatloads of homework that takes us two hours to do. For each class we should have no more than 30 minutes to do each night. Don't get me wrong sometimes homework is necessary but, not too much because we do have a life to live.
Homework on the weekends? That is not necessary. The weekend is our free time. We don't need homework, its vacation!
Oh, and how are we supposed to do our homework if no one has taught it to us? Automatic flunk! It's not fair to us. Then our parents get upset and it's a big mess.
Anyway, like I said homework is necessary. But, it isn't necessary for us to have to hour's worth. And believe it or not we kids do have a life to live.
Homework
By Kayla
At my school parents have been complaining that kids get way too much homework and the teachers should limit it. They have even started a campaign over it, but the teachers don't agree. They think the homework limit is just fine. And so do I.
The first period class, fourth period class, fifth period or any of the last period classes don't give us homework. Well they do but only when we don't finish our assignment in class. So if you would finish your work in those classes you wouldn't get very much homework.
Maybe if you are a little slow. No offense. You might get a lot of homework, but otherwise you don't. People, I think, are just being lazy and don't want to do their work.
In math the teacher only gives us about 20 problems every night for homework. 20 problems really is not a lot at all. She even gives us a little time in class to do it. There is also the ELA teacher Mr. Heist, who also doesn't give us a lot of homework. Every night it's the same stuff just different spelling words. Monday we have five times each; Tuesday we have sentences, Wednesday we have story only using five of the words on the spelling list in it, and Thursday its ABC order.
So if you think about its not a lot at all. At the most we should only get about three pages a night unless you don't finish you work in one of the classes that don't give you homework unless you don't finish your work in class.
HOMEWORK ELIMINATION!
By Garrett
I don't think we should have homework because we have enough work in class. I think that teachers shouldn't be able to give homework unless the students want homework. I think I think it's unfair to give homework
The teachers shouldn't be able to give homework because they make us take notes. They make us do too much work in class also. It is unnecessary to do homework because it's too much work.
Students should have a choice to do homework if they want. If they don't they shouldn't have to do it. The students should have the power over most of the homework because some like to do it and some don't like to do it.
The parents should have some control over homework also because it's their children. If the parents had no control the kids wouldn't do any homework. The kids would choose not to do homework. Their parents would make their kids do homework. That's why parents should have control over homework.
So that's why we shouldn't have homework. We have too much homework every day. Now we should only have work in class. It's already too much work in class; we shouldn't have it at home also. It's just too much work at home. That's why we shouldn't have homework.
Homework
By Coltan
In the past, here at my school, we have had homework almost every day for the four years I have been here. Now, that's just me. I am pretty sure that if you ask everyone else in high school, they will say longer. In some classes we do have homework every day. In some, we don't. Most of the time we don't have homework on Fridays though.
Now, personally I think it is a little too much to be giving homework every day. In our sixth grade math class we have homework every day besides Friday and usually it's pretty hard. I have heard from people that they need help with it almost every night. Now, I think that's a little much.
Now, think almost the same way I do. Parents that I know, including mine, say for math, that's a lot for kids in sixth grade. Not so much for spelling. But we kids think it is. Sometimes I don't finish my spelling till 5:00 and I get home at 3:30. Maybe that's a little much.
Some homework I can understand doing. In our spelling class it might be reasonable sometimes. Sometimes in spelling we have hard words. I can understand if the teacher wants to help us pass the test we have weekly. Some kids don't understand that concept.
Homework these days is getting harder because new ways to do things are becoming different. Some things that we are learning aren't. My final opinion is for the teachers. Maybe sometimes, slow down on the homework.
Homework, Is There Too Much?
By Chase
Hi my name is, Chase Deitchler and I'm writing about the homework levels at my school. Today I will tell you about the homework levels at our school and really, for you kids who read this, there really isn't that much homework we get, I mean really if I can do it so can you.
All right now also what is the deal, why does homework kill trees, after awhile we are going to die, now don't get me wrong I'm ok with homework but I'm not ok with DyING.
Now, okay, there is not that much homework, and really if you want no homework that's fine but right now I don't see a reason for no homework ok!
Now I'm going to talk to you about reasons why not to have homework, now first I will tell you about HOW IT WILL KILL US! It is killing our trees that give us air we need air to live, but it also makes this would ugly and non vegetated.
Now lastly, I will tell you how to survive you can not do your homework just kidding but you can move to a new planet or just flunk school, THAT WOULD HELP!
Homework!
By Andrew
My parents have started a campaign to limit my homework. The teachers argued about the homework. I say us kids should have a little amount of homework.
This is how I'm going to do it. I'll try to confiscate them to let us have homework every week. If that does not work I'll ask very nicely. I'll Say 'May we have less homework please!' If that does not work I do not know what to do? Let me think Hmmm what to do I got it.
I got it I'll go on strike to get less homework. It's the perfect thing I'll just get more kid's to do it with me. If kids agree with me well kiss homework goodbye! Oh that's right kids can't go on strike I forgot that. Sorry kids to get you all excited over all that stuff about strike.
So that strike stuff turned out to be a big O problem. So I just found a new idea. It's that the school president can make the teachers give less homework. It's a brilliant plain. The teachers have to believe the school president. To find out all the teachers even the principle said 'the students should have less homework.'
Well I o I mean us kids are outside playing our new game. I'll see you later. If you have a computer that is!

Introducing Lena!
By Lacie
I would like to introduce you to Lena. Lena enjoys reading, drawing, playing sports, and annoying her sister.
In school her favorite classes are music, math, and P.E. she likes music because she enjoys listening to it. She likes math because she likes learning new things. And, she also enjoys music because she likes to listen to all the different notes.
Her hobbies include playing sports. She is the team captain on the volleyball team. She also plays softball. Her favorite spots are 1st base, catcher, and 3rd base. She has not yet played basketball but she is planning to sign up for it. As you can see Lena is very active.
She has been to the Emergency Room twice. The first time was because she got a bad earache. Lena says it hurt and they wanted to make sure there was nothing horribly wrong. The second time was because she cut open her knee. She was playing on the rocks and she fell on them. They rushed her to the hospital because it was a pretty big cut. She had to get three stitches because of that fall. She learned after that not to rough house on gig rocks.
Lena has a very active and exciting life. She had to learn a couple lessons the hard way. At least she doesn't sit around all day. And now, you know Lena.
Homework Times
By Kyler
Dear Editor,
My name is Kyler. Many students here at my school are getting frustrated about homework. Parents want their kids to have a life instead of doing homework all the time.
These are my reasons for having less or no homework. Homework is kind of ridiculous … sometimes. Sometimes homework is fun and easy, but some is hard and tiring. Some homework assignments take hours and I have stayed up to midnight doing assignments. I think we should limit the amount of home work teachers should give the students.
Work, work, work. That's all we seem to do here at my school. We go to class to class and work for seven hours straight. And on top of that we have homework. Some kids have after school programs such as sports and occasionally clubs like reading groups. All of that on top of each other sounds like a pretty cramped day. And that's how most people's days are. Like I said, parents want their kids to have a life. Not much of a life I would say.
Many times teachers don't like our behavior and give us extra homework. I don't think that should be allowed. Some teachers just don't know when to stop. They sometimes give us tons of homework for the entire week. Some teachers are nicer and give us a steady stream of easy homework.
Homework can be fun and easy, all we need to do is limit the amount that is given to us. In the end people would be much happier with less homework.
Homework
By Jasmine
I think that homework is necessary just sometimes. Like if student already knows what the lecture that the teacher is talking about is about, then I don't think they need so much homework. But if they don't then they should get homework for practice and study.
If teachers want students to learn the lecture they should teach it to them instead of just waiting for them to learn by giving them a lot of homework. I don't think that teachers shouldn't give students bagfuls of homework that take 2 hours to finish unless if it is necessary. In language arts we don't get so much homework and some kids don't even do it. Mr. Heist then has to punish them and then they have to stay in at recess. All that Mr. Heist gives for homework is a page a day which is for spelling to help learn the spelling words for the test.
I don't think that students need homework on weekends because those are the only days off of school that we have to enjoy. Anyway we have all the week to do homework and then we sometimes still have to do it on our free time (the weekend!). But the only subject that we have homework on weekends is Math with Mrs. B., but her homework isn't really even that hard. Sometimes her homework is hard but that's only if you don't learn what she is talking about! If you don't do your homework in any class, you will have a bad grade and then you will be on the ineligible list, and you won't be able to go to any of your games. LLL
Lunch
By Jasmine
Our lunch time is from 12:30 – 12:55. We line up outside when one of the teachers blow the whistle. Then we go inside and it starts getting noisy as people go in. The lunch line starts from where they serve lunch all the way outside. About 12 people bring lunches, about 20 people don't eat, and then the rest eat school lunch. After everyone eats their lunch, we just talk until it is time to line up. When we line up, we stay there until the bell rings and then we go to or 5th period class. And that is the end of lunch!! JJJ
